AvtoVAZ wants EV subsidies tied to localization of production

MOSCOW, Nov 21 (PRIME) -- Russia’s largest carmaker AvtoVAZ has suggested that the government differentiates its subsidies for the purchases of electric vehicles and ties them to the level of localization of the electric car production, CEO Maxim Sokolov told reporters late on Monday.

“Theoretically speaking, if the government plans to grant (a state subsidy of) 925,000 rubles to non-localized cars, we suggest differentiation so that highly-localized cars receive 100% of that support and cars with low or zero localization get almost nothing or no subsidy at all. The Industry and Trade Ministry confirms that state support and budget money should be distributed basing on actual localization of production, including production of electric cars,” Sokolov said.

The level of localization of the Lada e-Largus cars, the electric edition of the Largus model that the company plans to launch in January–June 2024, will be the highest in the country among all other electric vehicles, he added.
